Peregrine Falcons
This week it was all about peregrine falcons. Thomas has started listening to the A to Z Mysteries on audiobook and listened to one about peregrine falcons which got him interested in falcons. His really likes cheetahs because they are the fastest land animals in the world. When he found out that peregrine falcons are even faster when they dive, he thought it was really neat. So, we watched a bunch of YouTube videos of peregrine falcons diving. We already had a birds of prey book from the library and we started to read the section on falcons. Of course, Thomas had to make a falcon (and a cheetah). I found an idea online that we perfected with our stairs. We put the falcon on a toilet roll tube and put a string through it. Here it goes...
We also made a falcon printable craft. Now the fun thing is to play birds of prey. He is always a peregrine falcon, of course. The best was when I suggested we play it when cleaning up and all the things on the floor were prey. It may have been the fastest clean-up ever. Today while on a walk at Two Rivers Bridge, the boys had a race. First, it was daddy, a cheetah, and Thomas, a peregrine falcon, and then Stuart joined in and they were all birds of prey. When Thomas pretends to be a falcon, he begins by flapping his arms, then wraps them around himself like a falcon tucks its wings in to dive.
We came home and drew peregrine falcons with sidewalk chalk (see picture above). Stuart kept sitting on the falcon's stomach and saying, "The peregrine falcon eated me." He drew enough for all of us (and one extra).
